Predators report: Inside shots
If it's Friday, then for the Predators it must be Columbus and the final game of the season against the Blue Jackets. The Blue Jackets will come into the game madder than, well, hornets. They didn't like the way Nashville's Jordin Tootoo played in Tuesday night's game. And they didn't like his choice of fighting partners. Look for this game at the Nationwide Arena to somewhat resemble "Friday Night at the Fights" instead of a hockey game as the frustration boils over. The Predators have found solid goaltending the last two games and Dan Ellis will get the call again Friday since he is coming off of a shutout. But for some reason they still can't put together 60 minutes of hockey. Ellis has covered for his teammates with his play of late, but he feels it is the least he can do since he had a pair of sub-par performances. PREDATORS 3, BLUE JACKETS 0: The Predators came out with a strong first period scoring a pair of goals, but lost their way in the second. They were out-shot 19-5 and lost their momentum amid mistakes and penalties. Jason Arnott and Jan Hlavac, the newest addition to the top line replacing Alexander Radulov who has moved down a notch, both scored. Again this is a team that needs more than the top line scoring. Radek Bonk added a power-play goal in the third period to seal the game, but that isn't enough. The penalty kill was solid stopping all six power play attempts by Columbus. These two wins have been nice, but this is a team that still needs to do more shooting from the hard areas of the ice and needs to play with a higher level of consistent intensity. They have won, but they have also shown there is still a lot of work to do and only five games left to get it done. Copyright (C) 2008 The Sports Xchange. All Rights Reserved.
